On Friday, the 22nd of October, the University of The Gambia held a Swearing-in ceremony for a batch of newly qualified medical doctors.
The ceremony was attended by parents and officials from various institutions including the Health (MOH) and Higher Education (MOHERST) ministries,the Gambia Medical and Dental Council and management of the University.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Pierre Gomez, Acting Vice Chancellor said “these are another crop of highly trained young men and women comprising 22 females and 13 male”. He expressed his hope that “they will all stay and work to support health care delivery in The Gambia during these trying and difficult times, and I sincerely hope that they will all promise to work in The Gambia at least for some years.”
After seven years of rigorous training and examination by health specialists from The Gambia and beyond, the new doctors took the sacred oath in an affirmation of their commitment to their sensitive responsibility.
Prof. Ramatoulie Njie, the Provost of the Medical School congratulated the new doctors for their hardwork and resilience. She reminded them that they are entering a noble profession and they must always give their best.
