School of Agriculture & Environment Sciences

The main goal of the of the school is to provide the human resource base required to manage and develop the country’s agriculture and natural resources (land, marine and aquatic) in a sustainable manner in order to provide food, employment, income and recreational resources for the people of The Gambia.

The programme seeks to produce graduates who are academically skilled, professionally competent and innovative.  The curriculum combines applied experiences, with a good mix of on- campus courses. These include research projects, field attachments and farm practice.

The Four-Year Programme (Regular)

All the courses are core courses.  There is an option in the fourth year between crops or animal production depending on the candidate’s area of interest.  There are also the university General Education Requirements of a total of 27 credit hours.  A research project is compulsory for graduation.   A minimum of 120 credit hours is needed for graduation.  This programme started in the 2007/2008 academic year. 

The Two-Year Programme (Intergrated Curriculum)

This is for candidates who have successfully completed the Higher Diploma course in Agriculture (HDA) with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.2 and above.  There are also the university General Education Requirements of a total of 27 credit hours for graduation.  A research project is compulsory and there is also an option at the final year (year two) for a crops or animal production bias.   A minimum of 92 credit hours is required for graduation

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the programme is in accordance with the general requirements for entry to the University of The Gambia: Minimum of five (5) credits ‘O’ level/WASSCE including English language, Mathematics, Agricultural Science and Biology in not more than two sittings. 

Transition from Higher Diploma in Agriculture (HDA) to BSc. Candidates who successfully completed all the requirements of the HDA course with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.2 and above may be admitted into the BSc. degree programme in Agriculture.

TUITION FEE

The annual tuition fee is GMD 34,900 and $ 3,750 for both local and international students respectively.This is payable in two equal installments before or at the commencement of the semester. It is worth noting that, UTG only allows students that pay at least 40% of the due fees to sit to examinations. These payments can be made at any of the various Trust Bank Ltd. Branches across the country. The university is notified of this payment and you’re cleared to attend classes and sit to the examinations.

Agriculture And Environment Science Students Association (AESSA)

AESSA like the rest of the sub associations within the University of The Gambia, represents the interest of all students within the university. The association safeguards and serves as an intermediary between the school and other institutions. They engage in tree plantings, cleansing exercises, an annual nationwide tour and a host of other activities and programmes relevant to their area of study.
