The School of Communication and Information Technology (ICT) educates students to apply state of the art information technology to solve real world communication problems in a socially responsible way. In addition to the technical knowledge and skills they master, graduates of the School of Information and Communications Technology excel in communication and innovative problem solving.
The school of ICT is well resourced with highly trained academic staff motivated to deliver with excellence. The school has a modern computer lab, with high quality internet connectivity and is open to all students for their practical. Students can spend considerable amount of time doing research at the lab and have lecturers for guidance at their disposal.
The course provides an overview of current changes in information technology and their impact on organizations. This is a capstone course for information systems minors and will integrate material from all required courses and the respective changes that have taken place. This class uses many learning styles to achieve its purpose. The class is based on assigned readings, presentations by business leaders, classroom discussions, hands-on user of technology, research and presentation.
Computer Science deals with the fundamental scientific laws and engineering principles which govern the design, implementation, use and maintenance of computer systems. A computer scientist is involved in work ranging from mathematical and empirical studies of problem-solving procedures to research in advanced computing systems. The field covers the study of theoretical and applied principles of computer systems. As computer systems have become a part of everyday life, the demand for specialized professionals in the area has increased astronomically.
The Information Systems program provides students with a solid foundation in information technology principles and practice. The emphasis is on applications of information technology rather than the computer itself. The core courses for the information systems major include programming, computer architecture, operating systems, data communication, systems analysis and design, database applications, and project management. Students also take courses in statistics, operations management, IT organizations, and financial systems. The Information systems program also provides opportunity for students to combine their technical IT courses with general business course requirements from the School of Business Entrepreneurship.
Tuition Fee
The annual tuition fee is D38,000 for Gambians and $ 4,950 for international students. Students have the option of paying the whole amount or half of the amount per semester (D19,000/$2475). It is worth noting that, UTG only allows students that pay at least 40% of the due fees to sit to examinations. These payments can be made at any of the various Trust Bank Ltd. Branches across the country. The university is notified of this payment and you’re cleared to attend classes and sit to the examinations.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the programmes at the School of Information and Communication Technology is in accordance with the requirements for entry to the University of The Gambia: Minimum of 5 credits ‘O’ level/WASSCE including English language and a strong grade in mathematics (A1 to C4). Applicants must have been Pure Science students in high school. Strong grades in Science courses such as Chemistry, Biology and Physics are highly considered.
Note that the School of Information and Communication Technology does not admit Mature Students.

Information Technology and Communication Association (ITCA)
Students studying Computer Science or Information Systems can participate in series of activities organized by the student body (ITCA). It comprises of only students studying at the School of ICT. ICT students can volunteer for summer classes mainly for high school students on graphic design, programming, web design, office application amongst others. They also prepare representatives of the school in inter school/faculty competitions such as debates, sporting events.
