School of Business & Public Administration
The School of Business and Public Administration (SBPA) is one of the biggest schools in the University of The Gambia. With its campus situated at Kanifing, the school offers Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programmes in Public Administration, Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Marketing, Economics, Management, Human Resource management and Tourism and Hospitality Management (which is also offered as a diploma course).
The school is well resourced to enable a convenient teaching and learning environment. It boasts of a top-notch library with a diverse west of modern computers and a high-speed internet accessible by all students within the campus. The courses are mounted by full time and part time lecturers from the country’s most educated and experienced lecturers. This gives students a rare opportunity to learn from people that understand and work on the public and private sectors of The Gambia.
This Bachelor of Science degree prepares career-oriented adult, professionals and students for positions in the public sector, the private sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), policy analysis, administration, program direction, community development, programme development, labour relations, consulting, budgeting and public finance, human and government resource management and lobbying.
The undergraduate degree in Public Administration offers students the opportunity to study the management of government and non-government entities. Students are challenged with various experiences that increase their knowledge and skills in managing public, private and non-governmental institutions in developing countries in order to improve quality in service delivery.
Human Resource Management (HRM) is a planned approach to managing people effectively for performance. It aims to establish a more open, flexible and caring management style so that staff will be motivated, developed and managed in a way that they can give of their best to support department’s missions. Good HRM practices are instrumental in helping achieve departmental objectives and enhance productivity.
This programme is tailored for career-oriented students in response to the demand from the public and the private sectors. As part of the programme, students take compulsory courses in economics, management, finance and accounting, marketing and information technology.

The B.Sc. in Accountancy is career-oriented filed offered in response to the demand from the public and the private sectors, especially the requests from financial institutions. Moreover, almost every business and organization need accountants to measure performance and provide information that will enable them make better and sound decisions.

This programme is specifically devised for students who want to take up tourism and hospitality management as a career. This programme prepares students for the bustling tourism industry. It courses entails courses in tourism, hospitality services, management, economics, finance and accounting, marketing and information technology.
Tuition Fee
Regular students pay an annual tuition fee of D38, 000 for Gambians and $ 3,750 for international student while Mature students pay D60,000. Students have the option of paying the whole amount or half of the amount per semester (D19, 000/$2475). Those pursuing a diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management pay an amount of D24,000.
It is worth noting that, UTG only allows students that pay at least 40% of the due fees to sit to examinations. These payments can be made at any of the various Trust Bank Ltd. Branches across the country. The university is notified of this payment and you are cleared to attend classes and sit to the examinations.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Admission to the programmes at the School of Business and Public Administration is in accordance with the requirements for entry to the University of The Gambia: Minimum of 5 credits ‘O’ level/WASSCE including English language and Mathematics. Applicants must have strong grades in Mathematics and the commercial/business subjects.
The Economics and Management Students Association (ECOMANSA)
The Economics and Management Students Association (ECOMANSA) is the umbrella body that advocates for the advancement of the welfare of all students within the school. ECOMANSA is one of the most vibrant student associations within UTG. In the list of annual activities, they organize includes a research trip to other West African countries, like previously Senegal and Guinea Bissau, an ECOMANSA day, which is sort of a career event and also dedicated to celebrating the achievements of the school amongst others.
The association boasts of strong football and athlete teams coupled with a sports ground situated in the middle of the school campus. This gives students the chance to take time off to exercise and engage in other extracurricular activities.
