UTG INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE KICKSTARTS

The University of The Gambia has kickstarted its maiden International Conference on the theme “COVID-19 Pandemic- Economics, Health and Education:Impacts and Recovery”.

In welcoming the participants to the two day conference, the Director of the UTG’s Research and Consultancy Directorate, Dr. Muhammed Lamin Sanyang expressed his delight over the work that culminated in the hosting of such an important academic conference. 

“We are very happy to receive you all from around the world”, Dr. Sanyang said.“This is a conference where we will network and share ideas on how to deal with the impact of covid-19”, he added.

Acting Vice Chancellor of the UTG, Prof. Pierre Gomez said the goal of the conference is to create a platform for academics to discuss their research works on issues related to the pandemic for the sake of informing policy. 

He emphasised that by the end of this two-day conference, the participants “must not only imbibe the presentations from various speakers and discussions but take advantage of the opportunity given for a stakeholder collaboration that would give rise to futuristic research activities and equally ensure that every policy is guided by sound research as its raw material”.

Other speakers at the ceremony included representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health. The conference will feature numerous paper presentations,panel discussions among others.
