The University of The Gambia has been officially inducted as a member of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South’s (COMSATS) Network of International S&T Centres of Excellence.
The Islamabad-based commission was established to build sustainable indigenous capacities in science and technology, strengthening collaboration and exchange of technical know-how for sustainable socio-economic development among its member.
With the intervention of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Faqir Muhammad Anjum, COMSATS has agreed to support staff at the University of The Gambia’s Physical and Natural Sciences with Master’s and Doctorate (PhD) degree scholarships in addition to short term capacity building programmes, with effect from this academic year.
The commission has 27 developing countries as members from across three continents, Africa, Asia and Latin America with Ghanaian President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo serving as its current Chairperson.
