On Thursday,10th of October, the School of Business and Public Administration kickstarted its second annual conference at the Law Faculty Auditorium in Kanifing.
“Social Protection and Economic Development in The Gambia” was the theme for the two-day conference, attended by over 200 participants from university students to civil society activists, entrepreneurs among others.
Penny Williams, a Senior Operations Officer at the World Bank was the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony of the conference. He highlighted the importance of social protection especially in reducing poverty in developing countries like The Gambia.
Dr. Fanneh, the dean of the school of business and public administration (SBPA), thanked the partners for their efforts in making the conference possible. He said the school held its maiden conference last year with limited resources but it has grown bigger and it can only get better.
The vice chancellor of the University, Prof. Faqir Muhammad Anjum welcomed the participants to the institution. He said organizing conferences like this is an important academic function of universities. Prof. Anjum congratulated the dean SBPA and his team for staging such a high-quality event before officially declaring the conference open.
The two-day conference will feature panel discussions with officials from the university, World Bank, Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry.Presentations on social protection and research findings will be done by senior academics.
