The University of The Gambia (UTG) held its traditional orientation ceremony for the newly enrolled students for the 2019/2020 academic year on the 2nd of September,2019.
The event held at the Law Faculty auditorium, brought together students admitted into various undergraduate programmes offered for the fall semester, senior academic and administrative staff of the university.
Chairing the ceremony on behalf of the Registrar, Mr. Famara Sanneh welcomed the freshmen to the university, he described as the powerhouse for the transformation of The Gambia through the creation, application and transfer of knowledge as stated in its vision statement.
‘’You are now at the highest institution in academia; therefore, you must buckle down to overcome the numerous challenges that comes along with it’’. Mr. Sanneh told the students that academic life is challenging but with diligence, commitment and handwork one reaps the rewards.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics and Provost of the School of Medicine, Prof. Ousman Nyan and the Deans of the various faculties/schools took turns to enjoin the students to adhere to the academic standards at UTG. Adding that reading and research is central to
Students at the UTG are required to meet certain number of credit hours of lectures, which vary based on the areas of study. They must also complete the courses outlined in their course catalog which include, but not limited to, General Education Requirements (GER) and Departmental Requirement courses before they can graduate.
