The University of The Gambia has bid farewell to nine undergraduate and graduate students who will participate in a six-month academic exchange in Spain under the EU-funded Erasmus+ mobility programme.
This marks the fifth cohort of UTG students to benefit from the initiative, which supports academic exchange and collaboration between partner institutions.
The send-off meeting was attended by UTG Vice Chancellor Professor Herbert Robinson; the European Union Ambassador to The Gambia, Her Excellency Immaculada Roca i Cortés; Spanish Chargé d’Affaires Violeta Insa Sandoval; the Erasmus Focal Person at the EU Mission Mr. Buba Tamba; UTG Erasmus Coordinator Mr. Alieu Jarju; Erasmus Support Officer Mr. Muhammed Hydara; and UTG Communications Coordinator Sheikh Tijan Njie.
The students, selected from different academic programmes and coordinated through the University’s International Relations Office, will spend a semester at the University of Jaén and the University of La Laguna. The exchange will allow them to continue their studies while gaining experience in a different academic and cultural environment.
The cohort is gender-balanced and includes students with disabilities, in line with the University’s efforts to ensure equitable access to international opportunities.

During the meeting, officials congratulated the students on their selection and encouraged them to represent the University well during their stay. They also reaffirmed their support for the students throughout the exchange period.
