UTG is “Our National Beacon of Hope and Academic Fulfilment” says President Barrow

The President of the Republic of The Gambia and Chancellor of the University of The Gambia, H.E Adama Barrow described the University as the “national beacon of hope and academic fulfilment” for The Gambia.

The chancellor made these remarks at the 12th Convocation Ceremony of the University of The Gambia in Bijilo before he conferred various academic degrees, diplomas, certificates and medals to graduating and deserving students.

“Since its inception, the University has been training and graduating Gambians, who have proceeded to contribute towards shaping the destiny of our country. Together, we have witnessed tremendous achievements and gains in reshaping and redirecting Gambian history and politics,” the President said.
He congratulated the graduating students while encouraging them to be mindful of their role in the development of the country and shun away from “divisive politics”.

Prof. Faqir Muhammad Anjum, the Vice Chancellor of the University said the annual event is the climax of several years of hard work on the part of students and commitment on the part of the academic staff.

“I admonish you to transfer the lesson of the UTG spirit encapsulated in our motto and core values_ knowledge, truth and development to the wider world where you will now function. I encourage you to be courageous, adventurous and be ambassadors of your alma mater,” the professor urged the graduands.

The ceremony saw the graduation of 869 students, who fulfilled the requirements both in character and in learning as prescribed by the University and was attended by honourable ministers, the diplomatic and consular corps, national assembly members, the university Governing Council members, senior educationalists, partner institutions, lecturers, parents and well-wishers from around the world.
