UTG HOSTS UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR

The Political Science department of the University received the UN Special Rapporteur on transitional Justice at the Peace Building in the Kanifing Campus.
Prof. Fabian Salvioli,who was on an official visit to review progress made by The Gambia, delivered a public lecture on the Concept of Reparations.


The Professor explained, to the mainly Political Science students audience, that under international Law,reparations can be in different forms. He traced the historical background of reparative justice to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and compared the European and inter-American models.


Sait Matty Jaw,a Political Science lecturer at UTG,while moderating the session said the Gambia is at a crossroad and the young people have a critical role to play in this transitional process.The lecture climaxed with comments and questions from the students and civil society attendees. The Special Rapporteur took time to address the issues one at a time.
