United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) Visits

The Vice Chancellor of University of The Gambia, receiving a high powered delegation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Vienna, Austria, who are on a visit to the University to inspect on going works of installing a 100kWp solar power plant at the University of The Gambia Kanifing Campus.

GEF/UNIDO has provided 30% of the cost of the project. Mr. Alois Mhlanga, head of delegation from UNIDO, has expressed high level of satisfaction on the level of progress. Already 100 panels out of 300 have been installed. When completed, the project will provide for the entire energy needs of the University Campus at Kanifing, and even inject excess into the national grid. In addition, it will expose students to the benefit of renewable energy as an alternative, cost effective and environmentally friendlier means of electricity generation.
