In line with our mandate, we are training students to diagnose societal challenges and proffer solutions towards addressing those challenges.
A team of our students participating in a competition, identified Kora, a community in the Central River Region, with acute water and sanitation problems.
Within few months, this industrious team was able to mobilized support from the university Management, UNICEF, Swe-Gam, Department of Water Resources and the Ministry of Health with full participation of the people of the community to achieve the following:
A borehole & taps
Started a cashew farm
Animal drinking point
Built toilets for each household to stop open defecation
Solar powered lamp for the village center
Initiated a communal bank account
Organised a cleansing exercise
Organised an open defecation sensitization
We will work closely with this team to scale up and replicate such impactful projects in the rural communities with partners within the country and beyond.
Congratulations team UTG
