SIR DAWDA KAIRABA JAWARA MOOT COMPETITION KICKSTARTS

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in collaboration with the University of The Gambia launched the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Moot Court Competition with support from the United Nations Development Programme.

Chaired by the Executive Secretary of the NHRC, Dr. Cherno Omar Barry,  speakers at the opening ceremony of the competition included the Hon. Chief Justice of The Gambia, Hassan B. Jallow, Chairperson of the NHRC, Mr.  Emmanuel D. Joof, and the Dean of the UTG Faculty of Law, Professor Henry Alisigwe.

Named after the country’s first president, the moot competition will allow law students of the University to argue a hypothetical case involving human rights problems that are of relevance to the country.
