The University of The Gambia is pleased to invite applications for admission into the graduate degree (Masters) programme in Public Administration commencing second semester of 2020/2021 academic session.
(1) Master of Science (MSc) in Public Administration
Philosophy and Objectives of the Course
The Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree programme provides an advanced and specialized course in Public Administration. The programme offers outstanding students the opportunity to make significant and enduring contribution to the practice and teaching of Public Administration especially those that have aspirations of taking a doctoral degree in the field of Public Administration. The programme is designed such that it offers broadly based and interdisciplinary training that prepares students’ skills and knowledge for a doctoral degree in the field especially in conducting both analytical and empirical research.
Requirements for Admission
- For the M.Sc. degree, candidates are to be graduates of the University of The Gambia or any other recognised University with a minimum of cumulative grade point average 3.00 in Public Administration. Candidates from cognate disciplines such as Development Studies, Political Science, Economics, Management, Public Policy, and Local Government Administration, among others, may be considered for admission.
- A holder of Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with a minimum of cumulative grade point average 3.00 from the University of The Gambia or any other recognised University may be considered for admission.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview which shall take the form of oral presentation of research proposals and the results will guide the Department to take final decision on candidates to be recommended for admission.
Duration of study
The minimum duration for MSc programme shall normally be four semesters (two sessions) for full- time study and six semesters (three sessions) for part-time study.
Programme of Study and Research
The programme of study for the MSc degree course is as specified and approved by the University Senate.
(2) Master of Public Administration (MPA) (Professional)
Philosophy and Objectives of the Course
The objective of the MPA programme is to provide an advanced and specialized course in Public Administration and Management. This course is particularly available for the mid-career officers who have had several years of practice and experience and who are reaching the higher levels of administrative management. The programme is designed such that syndicate group discussion, case study analysis and close interactions between the faculty and participants will be facilitated. This will enhance sharing of professional experiences among participants. The curriculum is also structured to accommodate courses in contemporary issues that will develop the participants in specific areas of specialization.
Requirements for Admission
An applicant for admission to this professional Masters degree shall be a graduate of the University of The Gambia or any other University recognized by the Senate of the University with a minimum of cumulative grade point average 2.00 (in any field of study) to be eligible for admission. A holder of Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration with not lower than 2.00 cumulative grade point average may also be considered for admission.
Duration
The duration of the course is three semesters and long vacation (after second semester examinations) for field attachment leading to the writing of a Field Report.
Application Forms
Application forms are available at the Admission Office, Kanifing Campus at a non-refundable fee of D500. Payment for Application Forms should be made at any branch of the Trust Bank. Completed application forms, together with academic transcripts of the first and second degrees as well as photocopies of relevant certificates should reach the Admission Office, Kanifing Campus, not later than 15th January, 2021.
