In honour of an official invitation by the University of The Gambia (UTG), the Coordinator General of COMSTECH, Prof. Muhammad Iqbal, arrived in The Gambia on Thursday, 25th February 2021 ahead of the UTG’s 13th Convocation Ceremony.
Delivering a goodwill message at the convocation grounds, Prof. Iqbal expressed gratitude to Prof. Faqir Muhammad Anjum, Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia, and the University Management for the invitation. He then congratulated the graduands and wished them well in their future endeavors. The Coordinator General concluded by promising to continue partnering with the UTG and supporting the institution’s staff and students in their quest for excellence.
As part of events marking the post convocation activities, Prof. Iqbal paid a courtesy call on the UTG leadership on Monday, 1st March 2021 at the Kanifing Campus. In response to Management’s call for support towards the attainment of its strategic goals, Coordinator General Iqbal highlighted the following:
⦁ that COMSTECH will provide UTG with ten (10) Research Fellowships in the STEM areas;
⦁ that COMSTECH in collaboration with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and other international partners will help UTG establish a Center of Excellence in Nutrition and Food Technology;
⦁ that COMSTECH in partnership with OIC, Islamic Solidarity Fund and the Government of Pakistan will establish a Multi-platform Viral Diseases Center of Excellence;
⦁ that the honourable Ministers of Foreign Affairs, and Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology as well as a UTG delegation will be invited to Pakistan for a working visit, the dates of which shall be mutually agreed;
⦁ that His Excellency the Coordinator General of COMSTECH will provide a tuition waiver worth of ten thousand US Dollar (USD10,000) for every UTG staff who gets admission in any Pakistani University or other COMSTECH partner universities;
⦁ that in May this year, Eye Camp will send some high level specialists to conduct trainings for experts and special general eye care services for the general public for a period of two weeks; and
⦁ that under the sponsorship of COMSTECH, UTG will host an International Training Workshop on Biotechnology.
