FORMER (3RD) VICE CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE GAMBIA (UTG) AND NEW AMBASSADOR TO SWITZERLAND AND PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE GAMBIA TO THE UNOG, WTO AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS IN GENEVA PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON UTG’S LEADERSHIP
Prof. Muhammadou M.O. Kah, a Professor of Information Technology and Computing and the former Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia, on Friday, 26th February 2021 paid a courtesy call on Prof. Faqir Muhammad Anjum, Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia and the University leadership.

Ambassador Prof. Kah is the third and longest serving Vice Chancellor (2009-2015) of the University of The Gambia and the first Gambian to provide leadership at the helm of the University. While in this post, he served as Overseer of The Gambia College. During his tenure at the apex of UTG’s leadership, Prof. Kah focused on restructuring and the transformation of the university enterprise and had been involved in university education in The Gambia prior to the establishment of UTG through the Saint Mary’s University Extension Program in The Gambia (1998). He delivered the 1st Inaugural Chancellor’s Convocation Lecture on May 12th, 2008 on the theme: “A DISCOURSE ON TRANSFORMING THE GAMBIA INTO A KNOWLEDGE BASED ECONOMY:
A POSSIBILITY OR PARODY?” And, during the 2016 Convocation, the University of the Gambia awarded him an Honorary Degree- Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his contribution to higher education in The Gambia and abroad.

Prof. Muhammadou M.O. Kah is the Gambia’s Ambassador Extraordinary Plenipotentiary to the Swiss Confederation and Permanent Representative of The Republic of The Gambia to the UN Office at Geneva, WTO and Other International Offices at Geneva, Switzerland; served as the Founding Chairman of Zenith Bank, The Gambia, Served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Africa Consulting & Trading Group (ACT), Dakar, Senegal. He is also the founder and Chairman of a startup, Khamsys Technologies Limited, at Bijilo, The Gambia.

With an immaculate career spanning more than three decades in higher education, science and technologies, juxtaposed with corporate business, Prof. Kah has held teaching and leadership positions in the United States, Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

The conclave between the current and former Vice Chancellors of the nation’s only public owned university was witnessed by Prof. Pierre Gomez, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic; Assoc. Prof. Momodou Jain, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration; and Mr. Alpha M.K. Lowe, Personal Assistant to the Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Kah profusely thanked Prof. Anjum for inviting him to grace the 13th Convocation Ceremony of UTG and describe his visit as nostalgic. “It is an enormous pleasure to be associating with my UTG family once again,” Prof. Kah remarked.

Prof. Anjum on his part expressed words of appreciation to the Ambassador for honoring the invitation and by extension commended him for his leadership role in transforming and laying a strong foundation for the University of The Gambia to the path of a World Class University resulting in UTG being designated as the Pride of the Nation. “The university fraternity and The Gambia will forever be grateful to you for your selfless service and visionary leadership,” said Prof. Anjum.

Substantiating and reiterating the words of appreciation and commendation, Prof. Gomez congratulated Prof. Kah on his new assignment and lauded him for prioritizing UTG’s invitation, despite his busy schedule. Assoc. Prof. Jain expressed similar views and asserted that UTG would appreciate any form of support the Ambassador may be able to access on the global stage.
