OFFICIALS FROM THE NIGERIAN DEFENCE COLLEGE VISIT UTG

A group of forty (40) participants of Course 28 from the Nigerian Defence College were on Wednesday 12th February 2020 at the Chancery Building of the University of The Gambia in Kanifing.


They were received by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Faqir Muhammad Anjum and senior staff, who led them to the Conference hall where Mr Lamin Drammeh, the Head of Department for Tourism and Hospitality Management, delivered a lecture on “Tourism and National Development: A Lesson for Nigeria”.


 In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Muhammad Anjum expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the military officials for choosing the University; stressing that civil-military relations are crucial for national development.


“You have chosen a path which is very significant to the progress and development of every country. Notwithstanding, for one to stand tall in any profession, the ardent thirst and passionate pursuit for knowledge is indispensable,” the seasoned academician advised.


Mr. Drammeh, began his lecture by giving an overview of the Tourism and Hospitality industry in the Gambia. He informed the participants that the industry accounts for about 20% of the country’s GDP, thus being an important industry for the economy.


“The Gambia receives over sixty (60) thousand tourists from around the world annually, majority of whom are from the Scandinavian countries in Europe” he revealed.


The lecture ended with a question and answer session before the team leader handed a gift to the Vice Chancellor of the University on behalf of the Nigerian Defence college.
