UTG offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including doctorate programmes in key areas central to the national, regional, and continental development needs of Africa.  With several campuses in Banjul, Kanifing, Brikama, Faraba and Farafenni, UTG provides access to higher education to about 7,000 students, including international students every year. 

School of Business and Public Administration

The School of Business and Public Administration (SBPA) was established in 2010. It is one of the largest schools in the University of The Gambia. The school offers Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree programmes in Public Administration, Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Marketing, Economics, Management, Human Resource Management and Tourism and Hospitality Management (which is also offered as a diploma course). The courses provide students with the opportunity to learn from academics and to gain practical experience from practitioners who work in different areas in the public and private sectors of The Gambia.

Job Overview –Professor 

The Professor position is a senior academic role that involves teaching, research, and service responsibilities. The Professor will contribute significantly to the advancement of their field through high-quality research, leadership in curriculum development, and mentoring students and junior faculty. They are expected to exhibit a strong commitment to scholarly excellence and play a key role in departmental and institutional activities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. General Administrative Duties:
  • Lead in departmental and institutional committees to improve governance and policy-making.
  • Lead in course and program content, module or programme implementation, working with others (support staff/academic colleagues) to ensure student needs and expectations are met and to align with institutional objectives.
  • Lead in organizing administrative duties (such as invigilation, admissions, timetabling, examinations, academic hiring and assessment of progress and student attendance) to foster a positive institutional culture.
  • Lead in the organisation of external activities such as placements, field trips and international visits in order to establish partnerships teach at partner institutions or act as Link-Tutor. .
  • Lead in coordinating the work of others to 
  • ensure modules are delivered to the standards required.
  • Lead in developing external networks to contribute to student recruitment, student placements, outreach work, generate income through research/consultancy projects and build relationships for future activities.
  1. Teaching and Learning: 
  • Lead in developing/updating the curriculum and preparing/updating Course Guides 
  • Prepare/update lesson plans and learning and teaching materials
  • Deliver lectures and provide tutorial and supervision of student projects, and other support to students 
  • Lead in promoting innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance student learning outcomes 
  • Lead in engaging students and other academics to improve teaching methods and to enhance learning experience 
  • Lead in reviewing/setting assignments, exams/tests to assess learning outcomes and provide timely feedback
  • Lead in reviewing/submitting grades for timely processing by the relevant examination Board

3. Research

  • Lead in developing topics for student research, long essays and project work to respond to national, regional/global challenges
  • Supervise student research, long essays, and other projects to support learning and the development of knowledge
  • Assess student research, essays/projects to ensure learning outcomes are achieved
  • Lead the organization of  research seminars/workshops to share knowledge, identify research priorities, and develop research to support students and other academics 
  • Lead in collaborating with colleagues and students, fostering a culture of academic inquiry and collaboration
  • Lead in conducting research and developing research projects,  grant  proposals to generate income and to respond to national, regional/global opportunities 
  • Lead in organizing seminars on publishing articles and research outputs in reputable conferences,  journals/other recognized outlets 
  • Lead  in promoting effective utilization of labs, equipment and tools for research
  • 4. Community Service: 
  • Lead in organizing School/Departmental/Unit meetings to ensure programme delivery
  • Lead in supporting the work of School, university committees, subcommittees and other adhoc groups set up  to strengthen the running of Units/Departments/Schools
  • Lead in representing the University in committees and other activities outside the institution delegated by the Dean 
  • Lead in promoting industry upskilling through internship programs 
  • Lead in engaging and collaborating with other stakeholders to support knowledge transfer and exchange through seminars/workshops, other training and policy dialogues.

5. Professional Development: 

  • Lead in the dentification of training and professional development needs
  • Lead in mentoring colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development 
  • Lead in organizing meetings, conferences, training opportunities/initiatives and other events in and outside of the institution.
