Child Rights Center in Partnership with UNICEF
UNICEF, the United Nations agency for children, works to protect the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged and those hardest to reach. Across more than 190 countries and territories, they do whatever it takes to help children survive, thrive and fulfil their potential.
The University of The Gambia (UTG), in collaboration with UNICEF, has officially launched its Child Rights Centre (CRC), marking a historic milestone in the country’s efforts to promote, protect, and advance the rights and welfare of children.
The Centre is the first of its kind in The Gambia and only the second Child Rights Centre established in Africa.
The Child Rights Centre is expected to serve as a national hub for child rights research, training, advocacy, and policy dialogue. It will generate evidence-based research across disciplines such as law, social sciences, economics, and data science, while strengthening the capacity of professionals working with and for children, including social workers, educators, health workers, justice actors, and law enforcement officers.
Job Overview
Position Title: Intern – Child Rights Center
The Intern at the Child Rights Center supports the implementation of child protection and child rights promotion initiatives in collaboration with UNICEF at the University of The Gambia. The role provides administrative, research, and programmatic support to ensure effective delivery of activities aimed at advancing child rights, safeguarding, and community awareness. The Intern contributes to data collection, advocacy efforts, and coordination of outreach programmes while gaining practical experience in child rights programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Programme Support: Assist in the planning and implementation of child rights and protection programmes, projects, and campaigns.
- Research and Documentation: Support data collection, literature reviews, and preparation of reports on child rights issues.
- Advocacy and Awareness: Participate in organizing awareness campaigns, workshops, and community outreach activities on child protection and safeguarding.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative assistance, including scheduling meetings, preparing documents, and maintaining records.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Assist in tracking programme activities, compiling data, and supporting monitoring and evaluation processes.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Support coordination with internal departments, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Communication: Contribute to drafting communication materials, reports, and social media content to promote child rights initiatives.
- Policy and Compliance: Support adherence to child protection policies, ethical standards, and safeguarding guidelines.
- Capacity Building: Assist in organizing training sessions, seminars, and learning activities for students and community members.
- Reporting: Support the preparation of periodic reports and updates for management and project partners.
