Vice Chancellor Prof. Faqir Muhammad Anjum has presided over the official awarding ceremony of research grants to over 40 academic staff of the University of The Gambia.
“Today marks an important day in the history of the University of The Gambia and I want to thank all those people that have worked hard within a short period of time to make it happen,” Prof. Anjum said.
The grants are earmarked for academic staff interested in conducting research on contemporary national issues that can have an immense impact on the socio-economic development of The Gambia.
Vice Chancellor Anjum said “It is only through research and effective communication of research output that we can contribute to the transformation of The Gambia and beyond”, adding that it, “ provides evidence that policy makers can use to make better policies”.
The Director of Research and Consultancy, Dr. Muhammed Lamin Sanyang disclosed that proposals were received from all the schools within the University. Hence they had to be reviewed by a committee plus external expert examiners.
“The committee invited the Principal Investigators (P.Is) for a face-to-face meeting to defend their proposals, the motif of which was to give them the opportunity to respond to comments, observations and recommendations from the reviewers as well as the research committee members’’, he explained.
