Apply for PH.D Public Administration

The School of Graduate Studies and Research, University of The Gambia is pleased to invite applications for admission into the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree programme in Public Administration commencing first semester of 2022/2023 academic session.

Philosophy and Objectives of the Course

            The Doctor of Philosophy programme provides an advanced and specialized course in Public Administration to open doors to intellectual fulfilment and exciting career in research and teaching. The programme is designed to prepare students for consultancy and academic career in the field of Public Administration. Their knowledge and skill are also developed to be able to conduct independent research on Public Administration and governance issues.

Requirements for Admission

An applicant for admission into the Ph.D Degree programme shall be

1.     a graduate of the University of The Gambia or any other University recognised by University Senate who possesses a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Public Administration (with research thesis) and with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00. Candidates from cognate disciplines such as Development Studies, Political Science, Public Policy, Local Government Administration and International Development may be considered for admission.

2. required to satisfactorily perform at the admission test to be administered by the Department/University. In addition, candidates will be required to undergo an interview as may be prescribed by the Department to determine the intellectual capacity and ability of the candidate for the programme.

Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the interview which shall take the form of oral presentation of research proposals and the results will guide the Department to take final decision on candidates to be recommended for admission.

Duration of study

            The minimum period of study for Ph.D programme shall normally be six semesters.

Programme of Study and Research

The programme of study for the Ph.D degree course is as specified and approved by the University Senate.

The application fee is .D1000.00 and candidates are required to apply online through www.utg.gm and click on the apply link to fill the form and submit. The Deadline for submission of applications is August 30th 2022. Please note that all receipts obtained from the University are to be uploaded on the applications for timely processing.
